MUR. Ty [Romantyka]

Ukraine's first original historical musical. The rap-opera "Ty [Romantyka]" grew out of MUR's album of the same name — 18 songs united by a single narrative thread.

Kharkiv, the 1930s. The House of Slovo — the most prestigious address in the city, home to Khvylovy, Kurbas, Sosiura, Semenko. The finest minds of Ukrainian literature, the avant-garde of an entire generation. And the very place where Soviet authorities would destroy every second one of them.

The show brings to life the stories of writers who shaped the Ukrainian nation — and honours their resistance against Soviet totalitarianism. Set to music for the first time — Tychyna's betrayal, Sosiura's service in the Third Assault Brigade, Khvylovy's suicide, Kurbas's execution. Names swept clean of history's dust, coming alive before your eyes — in hip-hop, rock, spoken word, and ballet, woven together with real dialogues and real lives.

Director Oleksandr Khomenko: "This is not a show about the tragedy of the Executed Renaissance — we've mourned enough. It's a window into the past, where you come and dissolve into the Kharkiv House of Slovo, into that era, into the dialogues of Sosiura and Khvylovy. That is what romance means — the ability to travel through time."
