Cassandra

“Cassandra” is a ballet about truth that is difficult to hear. The performance is based on one of the most enigmatic poems by Ukrainian writer Lesia Ukrainka, which explores the conflict between good and evil through the visions of Cassandra, the daughter of the Trojan king.

Gifted with foresight, Cassandra sees the coming catastrophe and tries to warn others, hoping to guide them toward the right path. However, her words are ignored — accepting absolute truth from a fragile prophet proves too challenging. Her figure becomes a symbol of a voice that speaks clearly yet remains unheard.

Although the events of the poem are set in the 12th century BC and the text was written over a century ago, the story resonates strongly with the present. The ballet addresses themes of collective blindness, inner and outer “Trojan horses,” and the need for vigilance at moments when society stands before decisive choices.

Through movement, rhythm, and physical presence, the ballet speaks about complex and painful realities without words, offering the audience space for reflection and personal interpretation.
