Sklep Theater

Legendary Prague ensemble founded in 1971 by David Vávra and Milan Šteindler. Other well-known actors such as Eva Holubová, Tomáš Hanák and Tomáš Vorel soon joined the troupe and together created a specific theater style based on a peculiar sense of humour, sketches and tongue-in-cheek puns. Since 1980, their home base has been Prague's Dobeška Theater. In the 1980s, Sklep was the driving force behind a distinctive generational group on the theater scene called “The Prague Five”, which included the Mimosa, Forward, Carousel and Crackle theaters. The movement was also made famous by Tomáš Vorel's 1988 film of the same name. Audiences thoroughly enjoy to this day traditional cellar Besídky - a series of skits, sketches, songs and dances and with its 1990’s performance titled Mills, the company made its mark in the history of Czech theatrical satire.
