Jan Skalický

Jan Skalický, known internationally as John Frank Skalický (1929–2006), was a distinctive Czech costume designer who made a strong mark both at home and abroad. Born in Prague, he began his career as a visual artist and costume creator in Czech theatres before his life took a decisive turn with his emigration. Settling in Switzerland, he worked for major theatre and opera companies, building a reputation as a precise, inventive and stylistically unmistakable designer. His costumes combined elegance, character and dramaturgical insight, making him a respected figure across the European theatre scene.
