    Libuše Šafránková

    Libuše Šafránková

The unforgettable Libuše Šafránková (7 June 1953, Brno – 9 June 2021, Prague) is forever linked with the timeless fairy tale Three Wishes for Cinderella, loved by children and adults alike. Although she became the most beloved Czech actress thanks to film and television, her career also includes remarkable achievements on stage. Šafránková devoted herself to dramatic arts from childhood, and after graduating from the conservatory she guest-performed at the State Theatre in Brno. The Mahen Theatre offered her her first major role — Shakespeare’s Juliet. After moving to Prague, she joined the Činoherní klub, where she met her future husband, Josef Abrhám, the father of her son Josef. From this period, audiences can enjoy the legendary comedy Tři v tom on Dramox, in which she played Colombina. Between 1992 and 1994, she was a member of the drama ensemble of the National Theatre in Prague. Throughout her life, Libuše Šafránková appeared in around 150 films, including My Sweet Little Village, Run, Waiter, Run!, The Blissful Years of Lousy Living, and many others. She also became widely known through television series. Among her most iconic film roles are Kolya — for which she received the Czech Lion Award — The Elementary School, and Grandmother (as Barunka). And, of course, Three Wishes for Cinderella, in which she created an unforgettable duo with Pavel Trávníček. Karel Gott’s theme song Where, Little Bird, Is Your Nest? still resonates in the minds of her fans.
