Matúš Bachynec

Matúš Bachynec is a Slovak theatre director of the emerging generation who has quickly attracted attention for his sensitive work with actors, strong sense of rhythm, and ability to address contemporary themes in an accessible yet nuanced way. His productions are civil, vibrant, and often combine subtle humour with existential questions of today. In Slovakia, he has collaborated with major theatres such as the Slovak National Theatre, the Andreja Bagara Theatre—where he also served as artistic director—and the Arena Theatre. He is increasingly active in the Czech Republic as well. Alongside directing, he works on his own adaptations and translations. Theatre critics describe him as “a director with a strong generational voice and a natural ability to communicate with contemporary audiences.”
