
Josef Průdek
Josef Průdek is a Czech opera singer, director, and occasional actor. He was born in 1946 and studied singing at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts (JAMU) in Brno. His artistic career has been lifelong linked primarily to the South Bohemian Theatre in České Budějovice, where he began as an opera soloist. Later, he turned to opera directing there and from 1990 to 1996 served as the head of the local opera ensemble. He subsequently moved to Prague, where from 1996 to 2002 he held the prestigious position of head of the National Theatre Opera and directed successful productions such as The Bartered Bride (Prodaná nevěsta) and Carmen. After years spent primarily in the musical world, he returned to South Bohemia. In recent years, he has successfully taken up dramatic acting on the stages of the South Bohemian Theatre, appearing in several popular productions including The Hound of the Baskervilles (Pes baskervillský), Slečna vdova, and Holka nebo kluk.
