Jakub Kopecký
Jakub Kopecký is a Czech stage designer, visual artist, and scenographer, widely regarded as one of the most distinctive figures of contemporary Czech stage design. Born in 1977 in Liberec, he studied at the Václav Hollar Art School and later scenography at DAMU. His work is known for blending visual poetry, architectural structure, and dynamic stage movement into cohesive imagery that shapes the entire atmosphere of a production.
He is the long-term scenographer of the SKUTR directing duo, creating acclaimed productions such as Nickname, Understand, and Duší dítě at Divadlo Archa. His designs have also appeared on other leading Czech stages — Divadlo v Dlouhé (Racek, Dopisy Olze, Sonety, Sen v červeném domě), the National Theatre in Prague (Kytice, Krvavá svatba), the National Theatre Brno (Radúz a Mahulena, Liška Bystrouška), and the Klicpera Theatre (Bratři Karamazovi, Pěna dní, Labutí jezero) as well as abroad in Poland.
Critics describe him as “a scenographer of extraordinary imagination,” capable of transforming the stage into a living, breathing organism.
