David Švec

David Švec is a renowned Czech conductor and pianist. He began his musical education by studying piano and conducting at the Conservatory in České Budějovice, later continuing at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno. He made a name for himself during his studies when, in 1998, he became the absolute winner of an international competition in Tulln, Austria, and received the Bösendorfer Schola award. His theatrical career has long been linked to the National Theatre in Prague, where he has been a conductor since 2003, participating in the musical preparation of dozens of opera and ballet productions, such as Carmen, Don Giovanni, and The Nutcracker. In 2022, he also accepted the position of Music Director and Chief Conductor of the South Bohemian Theatre Opera in České Budějovice, professionally returning to the region of his studies. Besides conducting, he is well known as a sought-after pianist who regularly accompanies leading opera singers.
