Kateřina Tučková

Kateřina Tučková is a successful Czech writer, playwright, art historian, and exhibition curator. Born in 1980 in Brno, she grew up in South Moravia and studied art history and Czech literature at Masaryk University, completing her doctorate at Charles University in Prague. She debuted with the acclaimed novel Gerta. Massive readership followed with The Goddesses of Žítková and Bílá Voda, for which she received the State Prize for Literature. Her novels are bestsellers translated into over sixteen languages and are regularly adapted for prominent Czech theater stages. She also writes directly for the theater, authoring the original play Vitka for the Husa na provázku Theatre in Brno. She has won numerous prestigious awards throughout her career, including the Magnesia Litera, the Josef Škvorecký Award, and the Prize for Freedom, Democracy, and Human Rights, awarded to her in 2017 by the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes.
